“A line is a dot that went for a walk” – Paul Klee Based on Paul Klee's quote, for Sebastian Gumpinger the line is the starting point of his work. In his art, the line is not just a static element, but a dynamic force that initiates a dialogue between the work of art and the viewer. The play of light and reflection plays with perception and the line appears three-dimensional in space. In addition to his “Cut Outs”, in which he cuts steel and copper into shapes, Sebastian Gumpinger will also show new works on canvas and a free-standing sculpture. Gumpinger was born in 1977 in Hannover (Germany) and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, where he was a master student in Günther Förg’s class. Gumpinger has been exhibiting since 2013 and now works between Munich and Mallorca.
