Mr. Snider’s collection is led by Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s The Fountain of Love, one of four allegorical portrayals of love the artist executed in the 1780s (est. $1.5/2,500,000). The present work is one of the artist’s most distinguished compositions of his mature career; versions of the celebrated composition also hang in the Wallace Collection, London and the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles. The painting combines a classical story with an atmosphere and dynamism that has enchanted audiences for centuries. One of the quintessential artists of the Rococo, Fragonard illustrated themes of love and passion throughout his prolific career.
