Während der Countdown zur Berlin Art Week läuft, laufen für die Performances aus dem Festivalprogramm bereits die Proben auf Hochtouren. So lange die Bühnenbilder noch gebaut, Instrumente gestimmt und Choreographien einstudiert werden, wollen wir heute schon einmal einige der Performance-Künstler*innen ins Rampenlicht rücken. Zusammen mit Berlin Art Link haben wir dafür Marianna Simnett in ihrem Studio besucht, die mit ›Gorgon‹ für die LAS Art Foundation im HAU Hebbel am Ufer ihre erste Bühnenarbeit präsentiert. Wer jetzt schon einmal beim Haus am Waldsee vorbeischaut, kann bereits die fünf Marmorlöwen für Nina Beier und Bob Kils ›All Fours‹ entdecken und auch in der Julia Stoschek Foundation beginnen derzeit die Umbauarbeiten zur Gruppenausstellung ›Unbound: Performance as Rupture‹. Mit Yoko Onos ›Cut Piece‹ zeigt die Neue Nationalgalerie im Rahmen von ›Perform‹ während der Berlin Art Week unterdessen einen echten Performance-Klassiker. Auch unter den 12 Sonderprojekten der Sektion BAW Featured sind Performance-Arbeiten zu finden, so präsentiert beispielsweise die Pickle Bar mit ›What Stays The Same After We Change II‹ das sich stetig wandelnde Werk von Filipka Rutkowska. While the countdown to Berlin Art Week is on, rehearsals for the performances of the festival programme are already in full swing. While the stage sets are still being built, instruments are being tuned and choreographies rehearsed, we would already like to put some of our performance artists in the spotlight. To do so, together with Berlin Art Link, we visited Marianna Simnett in her studio, who is presenting her first stage work with ›Gorgon‹ for the LAS Art Foundation at HAU Hebbel am Ufer. In Kooperation mit Berlin Art Link haben wir die Künstlerin Marianna Simnett in ihrem Berliner Studio besuchen können, um mehr über ihre künstlerische Praxis zu erfahren und einen Eindruck von ihrem Arbeitsplatz zu bekommen. In ihrem Atelier in Siemensstadt, auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen Glühbirnenfabrik, führt uns die Künstlerin herum. Im Gespräch wird schnell klar, dass ihre genreübergreifende Praxis eine Vielzahl von Medien umfasst. Hier wird gegrübelt, geformt, gemalt und geklebt. Den größten Teil ihrer Zeit nimmt derzeit ihr Projekt ›Gorgon‹ in Anspruch. Im Rahmen der Berlin Art Week präsentiert die LAS Art Foundation die Uraufführung von Marianna Simnetts erster Bühnenperformance im HAU2 des Hebbel am Ufer. Die multidisziplinäre Künstlerin greift darin auf die griechische Mythologie zurück, um Liebe, Neid, Macht und Empathie im Zeitalter des maschinellen Lernens zu erkunden. In conversation, it quickly becomes clear that her cross-genre practice encompasses a variety of media. Here she ponders, shapes, paints and glues. Most of her time is currently taken up by her project ›Gorgon‹. As part of Berlin Art Week, LAS Art Foundation presents the world premiere of Marianna Simnett's first stage performance at HAU2 at Hebbel am Ufer.
