The Rijksmuseum welcomed nearly 2.5 million visitors in the last year – a new record. More than half (55%) of those people came from the Netherlands, and more than 350,000 of the visitors in 2014 were children, representing an increase of nearly 20%. No fewer than 100,000 of the children were on a school visit. In its opening year in 2013, the museum attracted more than 2.2 million visitors.
Wim Pijbes, Rijksmuseum General Director: At 350,000, the record number of children visiting the museum makes me feel especially positive about the future.
Opening of the Philips Wing Two major reasons for the increased visitor numbers were the Calder exhibition in the gardens and the opening exhibition Modern Times. Photography in the 20th Century, which can be seen in the Philips Wing until 11 January 2015.

The Rijksmuseum collection could be seen worldwide in 2014 at more than 160 exhibitions and museum presentations, including Portrait Gallery of the Golden Age exhibition in the Hermitage Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum also lent masterpieces to Rembrandt: The Late Works in the National Gallery in London. This exhibition can be seen from 12 February to 17 May 2015 in the Rijksmuseum.
