Printed Matter is thrilled to announce the next LA Art Book Fair (LAABF), taking place at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena from May 16–18, 2025, with an Opening Night celebration on May 15. This new venue is an exciting context for the latest iteration of our much beloved West Coast Fair. Once a supersonic wind tunnel and aircraft-testing site, ArtCenter’s recently renovated 950 Building on South Campus offers state-of-the-art educational facilities at the foot of the beautiful San Gabriel mountains.
Initiated in 2013, the LA Art Book Fair is a celebration and international gathering for artists’ book publishers to distribute their work, connect with broad audiences, and nurture new and longstanding relationships. We extend our deepest gratitude to MOCA for hosting us in previous years and for having fostered the growth of LAABF on the West Coast. This year’s Fair will continue to explore the breadth of artists’ book publishing through our signature programs such as the discussion series, The Classroom, and musical performances on The Stage.
With classrooms, exhibition space, archives, letterpress, and typographic studios, the new setting of ArtCenter will provide opportunities for the Fair to highlight the pedagogical and discursive possibilities of the art book format through special projects and site-specific collaborations.
Applicants are encouraged to emphasize new work and/or inventory and share generous responses about their interest in participating, including proposals for programs and public engagement. In reviewing applications, we will consider a variety of factors in order to expand representation, with a focus on identity, geography, scale of publishing operations, and the welcoming of first-time exhibitors.
LAABF 2025 continues the Shannon Michael Cane Award for four first-time exhibitors in the early stages of their publishing practice, as well as the Volume Grant, which supports the participation of four BIPOC artists and publishers.
In this next chapter, we are inspired by ArtCenter’s support of diverse, intergenerational artistic practices, and we look forward to working alongside this institution.
We hope you’ll mark your calendars and join us this Spring in Los Angeles!
