Der slowenische Künstler Miha Štrukelj untersucht die urbanen Räume der momentanen globalen Wirklichkeit, welche eine identitätsbildende Funktion innehaben, was diese zusammenhält, sowie den kreativen und konstruktiven Prozess, der dem Ganzen zugrunde liegt. Durch seine Ausbildung als Maler bietet er kontinuierlich neue malerische Perspektiven, indem er das Medium Malerei einer Revision unterzieht – er reflektiert über die Stärke des Pinselstrichs, die Beschaffenheit der Materialen und wie diese zum Einsatz kommen. In den letzten Jahren hat er sich immer mehr auf das Zeichnen konzentriert. Die Skizzen werden zuerst auf eine Wand appliziert. Daraufhin eignet er sich den Raum an, bespielt ihn und setzt dann das dreidimensionale Werk in den Kontext der Umgebung. Im Zuge des Vienna Gallery Weekends wird er am Samstag, den 18.September 2010 ein Live Painting veranstalten.

Die interaktive Performance "VIRES" der kolumbischen Künstlerin Maria Jose Arjona setzt sich aus Aktionen an unterschiedlichen Orten in der Öffentlichkeit zusammen: Durch ihre Umsetzung an verschiedenen Veranstaltungsorten sollen die Machtkonstellationen zwischen Individuen der ersten und dritten Welt hervorgehoben werden. Das teilnehmenden Publikum wird bei dem Happening in den Straßen rund um die Hilger BrotKunsthalle aufgefordert, sich in eine intime Beziehung mit dem Akteur einzulassen um - wortwörtlich - die Zügel in die Hand zu nehmen, Macht auszuüben, Grenzen auszuloten. Die TeilnehmerInnen sollen quasi an ihrem eigenen Körper die Auswirkungen von Machtmissbrauch spüren und diesen auch ausüben. Die Performancekünstlerin wird wie ein willenloses Werkzeug, in S&M Kleidung gehüllt, instrumentalisiert wird. Machtdynamiken und Dominanz sind die Hauptmerkmale der Performance.

In the contemporary global reality, Miha Štrukelj explores what constructs the urban spaces that shape identities, and the creative processes that underlie his art works. He constantly offers fresh perspectives on painting by combining the examination of the genre, the medium, the dominance of the line, brush and canvas. In the last few years he has increasingly focused on drawing, bringing it first into murals and then into space and contextualizing it within site-specific work. Štrukelj will – among other works - show a site specific drawing and painting covering the wall, invading into floor space. The Live Painting takes place on Saturday, September 18th in the course of the Vienna Gallery Weekend.

The interactive performance “Vires” by the Columbian artist Maria Jose Arjona consists of activities at different places in the public: through her implementation at different event locations, the understanding of the relationship and the exertion of power between individuals from first and third world nations is to be highlighted. The performance is to serve as a metaphor for the ever-present political and economic dynamics between Europe, the USA and third world nations. The participating public is to be called upon by the happening in the streets around the Hilger BrotKunsthalle to engage themselves in an intimate relationship with the actor in order to literally take the reins, assert power and to explore the boundaries associated with these power dynamics. In doing so, the participants are to thus feel the effects of the abuse of power on their own bodies as well as exercise this role. The performer will use her body as the primary vehicle to convey her message by restraining herself in leather garments used in bondage and S&M practices, in which positions of power are clearly established, thereby alluding to the economic bondage associated with the exertion of power in the implied power relationships.
