THE GRAND TOUR, THE TWO HORACES AND THE COURT OF FLORENCE (1740-1786)

Learn more about politician and patron of the arts, Horace Walpole, the founder of Strawberry Hill House & Garden, and his chance encounter with Sir Horace Mann in Florence, who became one of his most valued correspondents...

Strawberry Hill contained a conspicuous number of Florentine works of art received as gifts or acquired thanks to the intervention of Horace Mann – Walpole’s library included biographies, festival books, catalogues of the Medici’s collections and books dedicated to Florence. This latest ‘In Focus’ display brings back some of these magnificent treasures. Click on the tile to read the full editorial.
