Karel Appel, one of the founders of the CoBrA group is an influential Dutch painter well known for his figurative abstractive painting with expressive colors and forms.

We had the great pleasure to work with him from the early 80's. Siwert and Thomas met with Karel Appel for the first time in his studio in Monaco. The meeting resulted in a collaboration with Galleri GKM with exhibitions of the Circus serie at Stockholm Art Fair as well as in the gallery.

The painting "L'homme avec la tortue" was bought by the founder Siwert Bergström in 1976 and the first painting by Appel that was acquired by the gallery.

Karel Appel’s works are presently held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. as well as in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
