An exceptionally rare and highly collectible piece of British barware, the Binocular Double Spirit Flask was made by the prominent large-scale silversmiths James Dixon & Sons (estimate $800/1,200). Disguised as a real pair of aluminum binoculars with a leather covering, the caps of the ‘ocular lenses’ can be twisted off and filled with a spirit and/or mixer while the ‘objective lenses’ on the opposite side contain two removable cups. The 1930s era flask illustrates one of the many ingenious designs for items that could be used to conceal alcohol.
