Coinciding with Hong Kong’s thriving March art season, Sotheby’s is delighted to present Masters of Design, the debut selling exhibition of mid-century modern furniture at its Hong Kong Gallery from 20 – 26 March. Presenting works by some of the period’s most influential creators including Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand, the exhibition celebrates an era that forged new bonds between art and furniture and produced sculptural pieces of exquisite craftsmanship, detailed finish and visionary design.
Patti Wong, Chairman of Sotheby's Asia, said: ‘Sotheby’s is pleased to bring to Hong Kong the Masters of Design selling exhibition as part of our Contemporary Art programme during this exciting Spring season. As an avid design admirer, it is also my personal honour to introduce to Asian collectors some of the finest examples of mid-century modern designs. The innovations by these iconic furniture designers continue to resonate, today more than ever, amid growing market interest in this important genre.’
Jasmine Yan, Gallery Director, Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery, said: ‘Compelling figures of 20th-century design, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand played critical and pioneering roles in driving the modernist design movement at home and abroad. Sotheby’s is thrilled to present the debut modern furniture exhibition at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery, bringing Asian audiences an unprecedented opportunity to appreciate these noteworthy works in person.’
