A private collection of blockbuster Bordeaux and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leads Sotheby’s London sale of Finest & Rarest Wines on 15 June 2016. Pétrus 1989, 1998 and 2000 vie for attention with Margaux 1989, Mouton 1990 and parcels of Lafite, Palmer and Pavie from the outstanding 2000 vintage. All the red wines from DRC in the much lauded 1990 vintage are on offer in six-bottle lots, with the Romanée-Conti carrying an estimate of £55,000-65,000.
Further collections are laden with First and Second Growth Bordeaux including Lafite 1988, La Mission 1989 and Haut Brion 1995 while a range of mature Bordeaux features Haut Brion 1931, Latour 1964 and Lafite 1966. Cheval Blanc 1988 in magnum and Ausone 1988 in double magnum add to the highlights.
A stunning collection of 1998 and 2001 DRC in original wooden cases boasts La Tâche 1998 and Richebourg 2001. Six bottles of the Domaine’s exceptionally rare Vosne Romanée Les Gaudichots 1926, with an estimate of £24,000-28,000, is another star lot.
Standout Sauternes includes a case of the “aperitif” Yquem 1969 together with the 1988 in Imperial and 1989 in double magnum.
Dom Pérignon from 1990 to 2003, Dom Pérignon Rosé 1996 and a trio of Cristal vintages – 1999, 2000 and 2002 – are poised to bring extra sparkle to the sale.
