Gerhardt Braun Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a new artist studio in Carrer de Can Sales 12. In addition to the first artist studio at Plaza de la Lonja 2 this is now the second studio where the gallery invites artists to spend time to gain new inspiration and to work on new artworks.

Gerhardt Braun Gallery has invited Sebastian Gumpinger to be the first artist to inaugurate and work in this studio. Gumpinger was born in 1977 in Hannover, Germany and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich where he was a master student in Günther Förg’s class. Gumpinger started exhibiting in 2013 and now works between Munich and Mallorca.

The material becomes the main protagonist in Sebastian Gumpinger's work. In his series "Cut Outs" steel and copper sheets are cut into form manually as well as with various tools. Through further processes with acrylic paint a continuous, winding line made from metal emerges which seems to spread three-dimensionally into the room. This makes the work a mixture of wall object, picture, engraving, drawing and relief. The artworks play with the viewer`s senses through the interaction of reflection and light. The three-dimensionality created by the reflection challenges the viewer to question his perception. The line which is his chosen creative medium expresses something that is deeply rooted and unspoken within the artist.

The opening will take place in conjunction with our NEW Design Studio at Carrer de Can Sales 14, where we are featuring a Pop Up with DREIKANT OG.

Gerhardt Braun Gallery will open its doors on Wednesday, April 5th at 6.00 p.m. at our NEW locations at Carrer de Can Sales 12 & 14, 07012 Palma.
