Sotheby’s wurde am 11. März 1744 in London gegründet, als Samuel Baker mehrere hundert seltene und wertvolle Bücher aus der Bibliothek von Rt Hon Sir John Stanley für ein paar hundert Pfund versteigerte. Die Geschichte von Sotheby’s Expansion über Bücher hinaus, hin zu exklusiver feiner und dekorativer Kunst und Schmuck ist ebenso Teil der Geschichte des globalen Auktionsmarkts, die durch außergewöhnliche Momente definiert wurde und bis heute die Aufmerksamkeit aller Welt auf sich zieht.
Aus diesem reichen Erbe entstand im Jahr 1976 eine internationale Immobilienmarke. Heute bietet Sotheby’s International Realty® immer noch das gleiche Engagement für außerordentlichen Service, was den Charakter des Unternehmens Sotheby’s nun über zwei Jahrhunderte hingweg geprägt hat.
