ASIAN ART WEEK - LIVE AUCTIONS: 19 – 22 SEPTEMBER

ASIAN ART WEEK | ONLINE AUCTION OVERVIEW:
The Moke Mokotoff Collection
13 September 2023 10:00 AM – 26 September 2023 10:00 AM
John ‘Moke’ Mokotoff (1950-2022) was a devoted Buddhist practitioner and an esteemed dealer in Asian art. This sale is a small fraction of the art he collected, but includes some of his most treasured objects: a very rare 18th-century painting of Bhavaviveka belonging to the same set as the Sakya Pandita painting he donated to Sakya Trizin; the superb Ming gilt-bronze figure of Hevajra and Nairatmya; the Tibetan gilt-bronze figure of Avadhutipa and the Khasa Malla gilt-bronze figure of Vajrasattva, which were both on his personal altar. The Moke Mokotoff Collection encapsulates many of his beloved and varied areas of interest within the field, and it is the hope of his family that his passion for these objects will be passed on to their new owners.

Arts of India
13 September 2023 10:00 AM – 27 September 2023 9:00 AM
This Asian Art Week, Christie’s is pleased to debut Arts of India, featuring a curated selection of paintings and sculpture from South Asia. Headlining the sale is a large and important painted pichvai depicting Vishnu in his cosmic form, Vishvarupa. The sale also highlights important court paintings, including a folio from the ‘Bharany’ Ramayana series, a large format scene from Purkhu’s Kirata Arjuniya, and five folios from a Nepalese Bhagavata Purana series. These works are offered alongside Indian and Southeast Asian sculptures, and a group of Gandharan sculpture with storied provenance, featuring works from the estate of the esteemed archeologist, Martha Joukowsky.
